Weston Athletes Named Boston Globe All-Stars
Longtime cross country, track coach John Monz honored as a Coach of the Year.
Some 25 student-athletes from Weston High School have been named as Fall 2011 Boston Globe All-Stars, which honors top high school athletes in field hockey, football, girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, golf, boys’ cross country, girls’ cross country, girls’ swimming and volleyball.
Yesterday’s Boston Globe article also honored longtime cross country coach and WHS AP statistics and precalculus teacher John Monz as a Coach of the Year after he brought the girls' cross country team to a record of 8-0 and won the Dual County League title.
"It’s really a tribute to the team," said Monz, who was also nominated recently for the first . "It is a tremendous group of young women, both in terms of ability and personality. They had a special bond as a team, and they really competed for each other, not just for themselves. It was a pleasure to coach them, and I hope they understand that they are the ones who earned this award.”
