Weston Introduces Evening Town Hall Hours

WESTON, MA — Weston is experimenting with new evening town hall hours starting next month. Tuesday hours will be extended to 7 p.m. and Friday hours cut to 12:30 p.m. The new hours will be tried out during a trial period by the town.

The switch was suggested by the town manager and the human resources director and approved by the Select Board. The town announced the upcoming hour changes on Wednesday.

Starting Jan. 6, 2020 and through May 2020, Town Hall will be open on Tuesday evenings until 7:00 p.m. This change is focused on helping residents who find it difficult to get to Town Hall during daytime hours.

The hours will be:

• Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 8:00 to 5:00 p.m.
• Tuesday: 8:00 to 7:00 p.m.
• Friday: 8:00 to 12:30 p.m.

Many neighboring communities have moved to evening hours with a shortened Friday — towns like Milford are in the process of weighing the pros and cons of the time shift. Weston's Town Hall has traditionally been open to the public for 37.5 hours per week. This trial change will allow offices to be open to the public for 42.5 hours per week.

According to the town there are no budget increases associated with this change.
