Weston Mens Hockey at Fenway Park

Last week I had the opportunity to travel in to Boston with a group I've skated with for many years, to play hockey on the Frozen Fenway rink at Fenway Park.  Here's a little article we wrote about it:

On Monday, January 6, the Weston Men's Hockey group, organized through the Weston Skating Club, took the ice at Frozen Fenway for an intra-squad game.  The group, which comprises mostly Weston residents and town employees and is in its ninth season of skating at the Rivers School, was able to arrange for an hour of ice on the temporary rink constructed in Fenway Park.

"Everyone was excited to be playing in such a special and unique venue," said Mike Anderson who coordinates the group and is referred to by the group simply as "The Commish" (short for the Commissioner).

The weather had been quite warm that day and brought with it a lot of rain making the rink into more of a shallow swimming pool so players watched the weather reports nervously all day.  Good fortune came their way however as temperatures dropped in the afternoon allowing the rink to refreeze solid and smooth.  Players arrived at the park and were directed to the baseball visitors locker room.  Once dressed they made their way down the tunnel to emerge from the visitor's dugout to get out to the rink.   The group split into two teams -- white and blue -- playing three short games with the white team taking the first game, the blue team taking the second, and the the teams tying the third 2-2.

"Clearly everyone had a great time and brought their best level of play.  There were a lot of smiles and photos, and I think it's fair to say we all came away with many memories of a special evening," added the Commish.
