Weston Police Investigating Break-Ins at Two Homes

Break-ins occurred on Highland and Ash streets on April 6, police say.

Weston police are investigating a pair of break-ins on Highland and Ash streets that occurred during the day on Friday, April 6.

At 109 Highland St., a rear door was broken, and cash was taken, said Weston Police Lt. Daniel Maguire. Also thath day, at 53 Ash St., a basement window was pried open and jewelry was stolen from the home, Maguire said.

The break-ins, though reported at 5:17 and 7:41 p.m., likely occurred between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and were reported by the residents when they returned home at the end of the day, Maguire said. Most break-ins tyipcally occur between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., he said.

The break-ins are under investigation, and Maguire said it is unclear whether they were done by the same person or persons.

A home in Wellesley was broken into today, April 10, near the Weston border and Scotch Pine Road, Maguire said, and appeared similar to the Ash Street break-in. Weston and Wellesley police are investigating whether those two incidents are linked.

Maguire suggests that residents take precautions to make it appear as if someone is home during the day, like leaving a television on or removing the newspaper from the driveway.

Residents should also call police if someone knocks at their door and asks for directions.

"That is suspicious," Maguire said, and could be the case of someone checking to see if someone is home before potentially breaking in.
