Weston Police Warn About Identity Theft Scheme
The scheme targets RMV users through an email, police said.
WESTON, MA — Weston police want residents to be extra careful when answering emails as a new scam has been targeting Registered Motor Vehicle (RMV) Department users through their email. Police said Weston detectives are investigating but it seems to be an issue affecting other municipalities as well.
Police said several residents reported getting an email from the RMV informing them that their RMV profile was changed and to contact the RMV if they did not make the change themselves. Police said the emails appear to be part of a larger identity theft and fraud operation.
If you receive such an email, police recommend you immediately contact the RMV and file a report with the Police Department as well.
