Weston Resident Named Mass. First Assistant AG
Mary Strother has worked for WilmerHale for 20 years and served as Deputy General Counsel since 2005.

WESTON, MA – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey on Tuesday announced the appointment of Weston attorney Mary Strother as the new First Attorney General.
Strother comes to the attorney general's office after two decades at WilmerHale, where she represented companies in both civil and criminal cases, as well as individuals in civil rights cases. She has served as Deputy General Counsel at the firm since 2005.
"I have known Mary for many years and know that she is a tremendous attorney who will bring a wealth of experience to this important role," Healey said in a statement. "I am pleased she has agreed to serve as First Assistant, and know her qualifications and judgment will help my office in serving the people of Massachusetts."

Strother served on the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers from 2010-2015 and was chair in her final year. She is a member of the Boston Bar Association's Ethics Committee and has clerked for the Hon. William H. Orrick Jr., US District Court for the Northern District of California and the Hon. Stanley F. Birch Jr., US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In 2000, she prosecuted a variety of criminal cases as a special assistant district attorney in Middlesex County.
Strother will replace Christopher Barry-Smith, who was recently confirmed as an Associate Justice to the Superior Court after 17 years in the attorney general's office.
