Weston Special TM: Clean Energy And Gender Neutral Titles Pass

Weston's Town Meeting members voted to change Board of Selectmen to Select Board; clean energy is coming to homes and businesses in town.

WESTON, MA — Weston's Special Town Meeting wrapped up on Tuesday night, bringing quite a few changes to the town. Town Meeting members voted on 13 articles on the warrant — ten articles passed, two failed and one was passed over.

Among the changes coming to town is the title for Board of Selectmen. Town Meeting members supported a gender neutral option under article seven and voted to change the title to "Select Board." In an effort to go green, Town Meeting members also passed article 12 which focused on community choice aggregation. The CCA is a process where the town can aggregate and switch the electricity of the households and small businesses from basic service over to cleaner energy. Electricity and bills will still be distributed by Eversource. Acton, Lexington, Natick, Newton, Sudbury, and Watertown are among the municipalities nearby that have already implemented CCA, and Lincoln has begun their process.

Article 9, a citizens petition to amend the zoning bylaw for transit oriented senior development, failed. The article was bundled with article 10, another citizens petition with the same focus. Article 9 failed to garner a 2/3 majority vote and article 10 was passed over.
