Wildcats Win DCL Small Title for Second Consecutive Season

In its latest outing, Weston topples Arlington.

For the second consecutive season, the Weston girls’ basketball team will go into the state tourney as Dual County League champions.

In their latest outing this week, the host Wildcats sealed the deal with a 50-30 win over league foe Arlington, improving to 12-7 overall and 8-1 in the DCL.

“We played terrific team defense and moved the ball really well on offense,” Weston head coach Linda Martindale said.

Weston sophomore star forward Saliah Serrette, who recently was named DCL Co-MVP, continued to dominate in all phases of the game. Serrette poured in a team-high 16 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, made three steals, and had one block.

DCL All-Star senior Allyson Pemberton contributed nine points, three boards, three assists, and two swipes. And sophomore standout Bianca Brueckner, who was named to the DCL Honorable Mention team, matched Serrette with a whopping 15 rebounds, while adding eight points, two steals, two assists, and one block.

“Bianca had a great game,” Martindale said.

Sophomore forward Kayla Lawrence, junior guard Sami Gosman, and sophomore forward Nicolette Kombouras “all came off the bench and played strong at the end of the game,” the coach added.

Serrette, Pemberton, and senior point guard Anna Duffey were all named to the DCL All-Star team this week, while Brueckner got the Honorable Mention nod. Serrette was tabbed DCL Co-MVP with Wayland’s Jen Berkowitz.
