
The Savers thrift store in West Roxbury celebrated the grand opening of its new location at 1230 VFW Parkway today. In this new larger space, the store will be able to offer more great deals on thousands of unique items while continuing to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation. The store held a ribbon cutting ceremony before the doors opened today at 9 a.m.
“The West Roxbury Savers is a staple in the community for bargain-conscious shoppers and treasure hunters. Our customers know that they can rely on us for a great shopping experience,” said Tony Askew, the West Roxbury store manager. “We’re excited to open our new location and provide the community with even more quality clothing in modern and vintage styles, designer handbags, home décor and more.”
Carrying everything from men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories, to housewares, electronics and furniture, Savers has nearly 100,000 items on the sales floor at any given time and stocks around 5,000 new items each day, ensuring customers continuously find a refreshed assortment of quality, value fashions. At more than 24,056 square feet, the location will also house a Community Donation Center, providing a convenient place for residents to drop off their quality reusable clothing and household goods free of charge. For every donated item, Savers pays the Epilepsy Foundation, turning otherwise unused goods into sustainable revenue that supports the Foundation’s programs including:

- Scholarships to camp Wee-Kan-Tu, which offers children age 8-17 with epilepsy an overnight program full of traditional camp fun and adventure
- Funding for the H.O.P.E. Mentor Program

- Community and professional education programs
The new store comes in conjunction with an increasing thrift shopping trend, which is one of the fastest growing retail segments. Lifestyle, economy and social trends have contributed to the growth, including the popularity of do-it-yourself projects, a renewed interest in vintage clothing, and importantly, environment- and budget-conscious consumers. Last year alone, Savers kept more than 500 million pounds of unwanted clothes from ending up in landfills, making it one of the largest recyclers of used goods in the world.
The West Roxbury store, along with the Epilepsy Foundation Community Donation Center, is located at 1230 VFW Parkway.
