Aspiring Eagle Scout's Service Project Focuses on Homeless Individuals
High school senior Owen Haight of West Roxbury donates toiletry kits to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program's patients.

Owen Haight,17, of West Roxbury, is on his way to earning his Eagle Scout rank, and his service project will benefit hundreds of homeless individuals in the Boston area.
With the help of other members of Holy Name Troop 7, Haight, a senior at Boston Latin School, has collected and put together hundreds of toiletry kits that he is donating to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP). Completing a service project is one of the requirements for attaining the Boy Scouts’ highest designation. The kits fit in well with the Boy Scouts’ emphasis on preparedness and survival.
Haight said he knew about BHCHP from volunteering with its Sox for Socks drive several times at Fenway Park, and its patients seemed like the perfect focus of his project. “I am a big fan of what BHCHP does and I wanted to help them in whatever way I could,” explains Haight. BHCHP provides medical care and more to about 11,000 homeless or marginally housed patients at 50+ locations each year.
