Barbara Helfgott-Hyett Named Catholic Memorial’s First Writer in Residence

Helfgott-Hyett is an accomplished, award-winning poet and educator, who be teaching students, staff and parents.

The Catholic Memorial School never stands still and the leadership is always looking to foster many educational avenues for students - and their parents. 

With that written, CM English and writing classes will welcome a new visitor this year with school's first writer-in-residence - Barbara Helfgott-Hyett. She is an accomplished, award-winning poet and educator, who will conduct monthly workshops in grades 7-12.

Helfgott-Hyett has taught at Harvard, MIT, and Boston University, where she won the Sproat Award For Excellence in Teaching. She co-founded The Writer's Room of Boston; and is the director of PoemWorks: The Workshop for Publishing Poets, in Brookline.

Helfgott-Hyett also is looking forward to conducting writing workshops for faculty and parents, as well as judging the school's writing contest and hosting a public reading this year.  

"We are excited to have Ms. Helfgott Hyett join our department," said English chair Vin Catano via press release. "And we look forward to reading and hearing the work our students will produce under her guidance."
