Boston School Committee Votes 7-0 in Favor 'Redesign and Reinvest' Plan that will Close Nine Schools

West Roxbury Education Complex to go from four schools to two. Lyndon School expected to receive up to 60 ELL students.

The Boston School Committee voted unanimously 7-0 tonight in approval of Superintendent Carol Johnson's "Redesign and Reinvest" plan that will close nine schools across the city.

The  in September of 2011. 

The only known impact to West Roxbury schools is that the  (ELL) attend the pilot school on Mt. Vernon Street. School staff have said that the school has the space to retain programming services and educate the new students.

The plan closes nine schools, merges 10 others, and expands some schools and programs. The goal is plugging a $63 million budget gap while boosting the quality of the remaining schools. Closures and mergers would trim more than $10 million a year from the budget, Johnson has said.
