CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOSTON SHARKS 6TH GRADERS MASSACHUSETTS STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS!!!!
Boston team wins State Girls 6th Grade Basketball Championship and invited to National Tournament which starts next week. Local support has been great needs a few more donations to make trip possible.
Winning the State Championship has led to an invitation to the AAU National Championship Tournament in Hampton, VA on June 23 to the 29th where they are considered very able to compete for the championship. The tournament is a weeklong event and there are costs for transportation, food, lodging, and tournament fees. The Sharks are reaching out to city organizations, businesses, and individuals for support in any method or level for this once in a lifetime opportunity for these deserving young ladies. The Boston Sharks Basketball Club teaches kids the life lessons that can be gained through playing sports, and in this case basketball. The Sharks are a non-profit 501c (3) which has managed to keep fees for the families very reasonable through prudent cost management, fundraising, and contributions of its volunteers.
The 6th grade State Championship team comes from Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, and includes Holly Gillis of West Roxbury and is very proud to have the name BOSTON on the front of their uniforms. We would like to thank the Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 550, Mt Washington Bank, Eastern Bank, TD Bank, and Annissa Essaibi George candidate for city Councilor at Large for their support.
If you would like to donate and make this once in a lifetime opportunity possible, please go to www.bostonsharks.com . In the middle of the page is a link to our “Go Fund Me “ webpage. This page does not reflect the donations mentioned above which were delivered in person.

The teams’ purpose of giving inner city kids the opportunity to display their basketball talents in and outside of the New England area. The Sharks are a unique team compared to the competition they play against. The average team will draw on an area of 10 to 20 miles with hundreds of the best players from multiple towns competing for 12 roster spots. Against these super teams the Sharks are made up of young ladies who live less than a few miles from where the team practices in the city and include two sets of sister. They are coached by Lisa Johnson a Boston School Police woman who does it for the love of the game and the players. The estimated funds needed to raise, even with the families giving what they can, to allow the whole team to participate is $8,000. The mission of the club is to provide young females the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball at a highly competitive level and this trip will supply that.
