Scott Brown Misleading Voters in His TV Ad About the Stock Act

STATEMENT OF MASSACHUSETTS AFL-CIO PRESIDENT STEVEN TOLMAN ON SCOTT BROWN'S ATTEMPT TO MISLEAD VOTERS ABOUT THE STOCK ACT

The following statement is from Steven Tolman, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, about the latest distortion in a Scott Brown TV ad, this one on the STOCK act.

“Scott Brown’s latest television ad continues his bad habit of telling half-truths in an attempt to fool voters about his record. Fortunately, Massachusetts
voters are too smart to believe that two of his half-truths don’t equal the
whole truth.

“In talking about the STOCK Act, Brown fails to mention that many lawmakers had filed similar legislation before President Obama signed it into law. He also ignores the fact that he intentionally left open a huge loophole that enables legislators’ spouses to benefit from the inside knowledge to which Brown and his colleagues may be privy. That’s not fair.

“This is another attempt by Scott Brown to gloss over his record of standing with the leaders of the extreme right-wing branch of his Republican party. Whether it is cutting taxes for the wealthiest 1 percent, refusing to extend unemployment benefits for out of work Americans, voting for the doubling of student loan interest rates or failing to support equal pay for equal work, Scott Brown proves to be out of step with the working people of Massachusetts.”
