Catholic Memorial Students and Staff Raised More than $20,000 for Breast Cancer Research
More than 350 students and 30 faculty members participated in annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Last Sunday 350 Catholic Memorial students and 30 faculty members took to the Charles River Hatch Shell for the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
In total, students and faculty raised more than $20,000 this year for breast cancer research for the walk.
On Sunday morning, Catholic Memorial School president Paul Sheff ('62) was asked to speak on behalf of the school on the Shell stage.

While it's not a competition, CM also out-fundraised more than 20 schools last year to win the Walk's first "High School Challenge."
"We march for two reasons," Sheff said. "First, our church, our faith, is very strong and unwavering in terms of its commitment to life. Life is a gift, meant to be protected. This march supports that goal."
"Second, in an era when media images of women are too often degrading, it is important that Catholic Memorial men see another image - an image of bravery, humor, strength, solidarity and courage," said Sheff.

Since 2003, CM's student body has raised more than $100,000 for the cause of breast cancer research. In June, the school was recognized by Mass General Hospital as one of "The 100," an award given to individuals and groups who have made extraordinary efforts in supporting cancer research.
