Charley's Market Faces Demolition

The hearing will start at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The owner of Charley’s Market, which is on 604 Weld St., will go before the Zoning Board of Appeals for permission to tear it down and replace it with a single-family house.

Universal Hub reported that Weld Street Realty Trust needs a variance because the store’s lot is smaller and narrower than allowed for a house under the zoning for the neighborhood.

The original owner was Charlie Nichols. He ran the store, which was first known as the Pioneer Food Store, for more than 50 years. As shown on the Sha La La La Productions YouTube channel, a bench was dedicated in Charlie’s honor outside the store in August 2013:
