CM's Powers Reaches 1,000 Career Points and Counting...

Powers becomes the seventh player in the Knights basketball history to score 1,000 career points.

senior Dan Powers reached a very impressive benchmark after scoring his 1000th career point on the hardwood for the Knights. Powers accomplished his feat on Saturday during the Knights' 75-55 victory against the Boston Latin School.

Powers has led the CM offense for the past three seasons, and is the seventh player in school history to hit the 1000-point plateau. He did it in just more than 50 games, while averaging about 20 points per game.

Powers start playing basketball on travel leaguesm and in the youth basketball program in Westwood, where his father, David, served as an assistant coach. Powers also plays for the Bay State Magic team in the AAU when not in the high school basketball season.

Powers credited CM Head Coach Dennis Tobin for being a role model and consistent source of inspiration in his hoops career. "I've always looked up to him," said Powers. "I played in the camp here when I was a kid. I've just always been around CM basketball."

The Knights won the Division I State Championship in 2008, and Powers thinks this year's team has what it takes to get there again. Along with the powers of Powers, is classmate Matt Droney, who is only a few points away from hitting the 1,000-mark himself. "It's pretty rare, for two people on the same team to earn that," said Powers.

At 9-2, the Knights are ranked in the top ten in the state, and have four more challenging conference games coming up, including a rematch against BC High, who beat CM on Jan. 17.
