Commonwealth Care Alliance Promotes John Loughnane to Senior Vice President for Medical Services

Commonwealth Care Alliance, a nonprofit care delivery system committed to providing integrated health care and related social support services for people with complex needs, has promoted Dr. John Loughnane to senior vice president for medical services.
“John has been a key player in our organization for a number of years, and we are thrilled to welcome him into this new role,” said Commonwealth Care Alliance President Lois Simon. “Over the course of his career with Commonwealth Care Alliance and Commonwealth Community Care, John has shown himself to be a dedicated physician who works tirelessly to improve the lives and health of our members.”
In this role, Loughnane supervises physicians who deliver primary care to Commonwealth Care Alliance patients; provides leadership, direction and professional medical judgment to clinicians across the organization; evaluates medical procedures and suggests ways to improve care delivery; and oversees the implementation of innovative approaches to medical care and clinical educational services.

Loughnane also serves as medical director for the Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) Life Choices Palliative Care Program and as medical director for Commonwealth Community Care—Commonwealth Care Alliance’s clinical affiliate. Loughnane joined Commonwealth Community Care in 2009, after serving as the medical director of Quincy Medical Center’s Hospitalist program.
He received his medical degree from University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed a residency in family practice at the University of Washington Medical Center Seattle. Loughnane is a resident of West Roxbury.

Care Alliance is a “consumer-governed” organization offering a full spectrum of medical and social services for people with complex needs covered under Medicaid and for those “dually eligible” for both Medicaid and Medicare. Commonwealth Care Alliance offers the Senior Care Options Program (HMO SNP), a comprehensive health plan that provides all the services covered under Medicare and MassHealth, and other benefits as determined necessary by an interdisciplinary primary care team. Services are coordinated by the primary care team and are accessed through our preferred provider network. Senior Care Options Program is a health plan with a Medicare contract and a contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts/EOHHS. Enrollment is voluntary.
