Gosule will update on the progress of “Melissa’s Bill,” named for his daughter, Melissa Gosule, who was brutally raped and murdered in 1999 by a habitual criminal out on parole after serving just two years for 27 violent felonies.  "Melissa’s Bill" – which is currently before the state legislature – would deny parole to habitually violent offenders.

"My daughter and many other victims would still be alive today had this legislation been in effect," said Les Gosule.  "Massachusetts' lenient sentencing laws allow almost any violent criminal to be released on parole -- even after their twentieth, fiftieth, or seventieth violent felony conviction!"

"40% of violent felons paroled in Massachusetts commit new crimes after release," notes Gosule.  "The state is failing its first duty to protect our public safety, and Melissa's Bill will fix that".

Mr. Gosule will discuss his twelve year fight for legislation to deny parole eligibility for habitually violent felons and learn what we can do to help get "Melissa's Bill" finally passed.
