Health and Wellness Day at Roslindale Farmers Market

On June 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Roslindale Village Main Street Farmers’ Market will host its annual Health and Wellness Day in Adams Park at Washington Street and Cummins Highway. Market goers and the community at large will have access to local providers of health services who will be providing information, demonstrations and activities. Health and Wellness Day is just one of many upcoming theme days at the Roslindale Farmers’ Market.

 Come find rejuvenation in a relaxing Reiki experience, relief for symptoms with acupressure, hear tips from nutritionists, ask questions of experts on eye health and learn about medical services available in Roslindale Village.  Health and Wellness Day includes a Zumba dance activity, the opportunity to burn calories with a Bootcamp workout or participate in a guided pilates session. Participate in a raffle for various wellness sessions or get advice to stay smoke-free. Read below for event details.

 Information about eye care will be provided by Phyllis Adrejko, O.D. Director of eye care services at New England Eye in Roslindale.   Debbie Krieg, M.S., R.D. will be providing information about nutrition. Debbie is a registered dietician and provides nutrition services at the Roslindale Medical Center.

 The Sumner School representatives will offer information about Sumner's health and wellness programs. The Sumner School will also lead a Zumba workout at 11:15 in the park for the entire market crowd.

 Carol O'Connor, a certified Group Exercise Instructor and Mat Pilates Instructor (certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Assoc. of America) will be offering free mini-Boot Camp sessions from 11:00-11:15am and 12:30-12:45pm and mini-Pilates sessions from 10:00-10:15am and from 12:00-12:15pm to encourage fitness and provide a good workout.  All sessions are free, open to all and will take place in Adam's Park.  Bring a mat and wear sneakers if possible. Carol is launching her new personal training company, copilates at the Roslindale Farmers' Market on the Health & Wellness Day, June 25th.

 Kim Ecevito will be offering free Reiki sessions. Kim is a certified Reiki Master, EFT Practitioner, CranioSacral Therapist, and a practitioner of Matrix Energetics.

 Karen Kirchoff Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine will be offering free acupressure for various symptoms.  Karen (Lic.Ac., Dipl.CM.) is board certified (National Committee on Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine) in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine and is a licensed acupuncturist by the Board of Registration in Medicine.

 Rogerson Communities’ Director of Programs, Sheila Place, will have information and handouts for seniors about nutrition, exercise, health and wellness tips, upcoming classes and Adult Day Health programs offered at Rogerson Communities.  Rogerson Communities is also offering a Nutrition Workshop for Seniors from 10:15-11a.m.

 Market goers can participate in a free raffle by dropping their tickets into the raffle jar on the Health and Wellness table(s) of their choice(s).  Raffles will close at 1:00; winners will be announced by 1:30, before market closing. Prizes include:

  • Two $50.00 gift certificates and 4 sets of sunglasses with UV protection  by New England Eye
  • Bike helmet from Boston Medical Center
  • $125 gift certificate for one first-time acupuncture session with Karen Kirchoff
  • One hour Personal Training with copilates owner Carol O'Connor

 Davey the Clown will make his second appearance at the market at 10 am. After you visit the Health and Wellness tents and exhibits, enjoy the music of Moniker from 11:00 to 1:00pm and up to 20 other specialty vendors including 8 farms. Upcoming live entertainment includes Bird Mancini on July 2 and Patrice Monahan on July 9. The next theme day at the farmers’ market is Ride Your Bike Day also on July 9.

 EBT, as always, accepted at the market for produce purchases.
