Multiculturalism & Jewish Identity

How do we relate to our Jewish identity? How do others and why is this important? We will interweave our personal narratives with an interdisciplinary exploration of contemporary American Jewish thought to interpret the significant experiences in our lives that contribute to our self-awareness as Jews and seek to understand the larger social, cultural and philosophical contexts that shape our interpretations of those experiences. Using the conceptual frameworks of agency, alienation, and authentic, we'll discuss ideas about "Whiteness" in American history, being "out" as a Jew, Jewish gender politics and the importance of American Jewish institutions in shaping Jewish identity.

The Sunday Morning Series of Rabbi- and lay-led programs has been created in response to our members who have expressed a desire to expand opportunities for learning on topics special interest. You are welcome to participate in as few or as many of these drop-in discussions designed to maximize your participation and engagement in Jewish life and self-awareness. These programs are open to all, and are especially convenient for parents of Chaverim School students.
