UPDATE: West Roxbury Park Closed Following Weekend Blaze

The fire damaged a playground at the William H. Ohrenberger Middle School on Boundary Road.


The central playground at the William H. Ohrenberger Middle School in West Roxbury went up in flames over the weekend, officials say. Police and fire officials have launched an investigation in an effort to determine who is responsible for starting it.

Only a portion of the playground sustained damage in the fire, but it will remain closed to neighborhood children until further notice as many repairs are now needed.

Investigators say the fire broke out late Friday night on Boundary Road. The cause of the fire remains a mystery at this time.

A slide was totally charred and destroyed. Also the roof to a tall standing structure at the playground was torched. Firefighters were able to successfully knockdown the blaze before it spread.

Many of the wood chips on which the playground stands were blackened by the flames.

No suspects have been spotlighted by investigators. Those with any information regarding the incident are asked to contact the Boston Police Department.
