Four Catholic Memorial School Grads Named Alumni Award Recipients

The Vince in Bono Malum Awards are named after the school motto, which translates to - Conquer evil by doing good.

The Catholic Memorial School named four graduates who will receive the school’s annual “Vince in Bono Malum Awards.”

Martin, Dick Harrington, Rich Serino and Jason Wellemeyer, will be the honorees of this year's awards that will be presented on Nov. 9 at the school’s President's Society Dinner at the Westin Copley Hotel.

The award is named after the school motto, which translates to “Conquer evil by doing good.” The annual awards are given in three categories: Distinguished Professional Achievement, Outstanding Service to Community and Outstanding Young Alumnus.

William Martin and Dick Harrington will receive the award for Professional Achievement. Martin, a member of the class of ’68, is the acclaimed best-selling author of several novels including Back Bay, Harvard Yard and City of Dreams. Harrington, who graduated in 1964, is the former president and CEO of Thomson Reuters Corporation, a company that ascended to the top of the information services industry under his watch.

The school will recognize 1971 graduate Rich Serino with the Service to Community Award. Serino, former head of Boston EMS, currently serves as deputy administrator for FEMA in Washington, DC, a post he has held since 2009.

Jason Wellemeyer, a 2004 graduate of the school, will be the recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. Wellemeyer is the co-founder of PrimeTime Lacrosse, a company that runs lacrosse camps and clinics for middle and high school students. He was recognized by Bloomberg BusinessWeek in 2010 as one of the top 25 young entrepreneurs in America.

President Paul Sheff ’62 will recognize each award recipient at the November 9 dinner. “We’re very proud of these exemplary members of our alumni family who have achieved such high levels of accomplishment,” said Sheff.
