On March 3rd, Island Creek Oyster Bar continues their quarterly Vine Masters series in which authors in the beverage community co-host wine-centric dinners at the restaurant and discuss their celebrated work in the company of Boston’s many oenophiles. For the fourth installment of his series, the team welcomes Eric Asimov, chief wine critic of The New York Times and the author of “How to Love Wine: A Memoir and Manifesto,’’ published by William Morrow, and “Wine With Food: Pairing Notes and Recipes From The New York Times.”

His weekly column appears in the Food section of The Times. A collection of his columns is included in “The New York Times Book of Wine,’’ published in 2012 by Sterling Epicure. Before he started writing full-time about wine in 2004, Asimov wrote primarily about restaurants and food. He created the $25 and Under restaurant reviews in 1992 and wrote them through 2004. He is a co-author of five editions of The New York Times Guide to Restaurants, and published four editions of “$25 and Under: A Guide to the Best Inexpensive Restaurants in New York.’’ In 2013 he was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America. Asimov is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and did graduate work in American Civilization at the University of Texas at Austin.

WHAT:

At Island Creek Oyster Bar’s quarterly author series, Vine Masters, each dinner is hosted by an acclaimed authority on wine and features a specially created four-course dinner with perfect pairings throughout the evening. Beginning with a raw bar and cocktail reception, featured experts discuss their award-winning works, answer questions and walk guests through the intricacies of the varietals they are drinking.

The series’ fourth installment will be co-hosted by Island Creek Oyster Bar and Row 34 Wine Directors, Noell Dorsey and Jillian Rocco and guest Eric Asimov, chief wine critic of The New York Times and the author of “How to Love Wine: A Memoir and Manifesto.” The wines selected by Asimov will focus on wines coming from parts of the world that were never before associated with good wine, such as Sicily, Santorini or the Finger Lakes. Island Creek Oyster Bar Chef de Cuisine, Nicki Hobson, will present a four-course dinner to serve alongside Asimov’s expertly curated wine pairings.
