Man Killed in Roslindale Confrontation Target of Terrorism Probe, Police Say

Usaama Rahim was killed Tuesday morning at a CVS store. He had been under surveillance by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

A man who was the subject of a terrorism probe was shot to death in Roslindale Tuesday morning during a confrontation with police.

Authorities said Usaama Rahim, 26, of Roslindale, had been under surveillance by the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Unarmed agents approached Rahim outside a CVS on Washington Street when he brandished a large knife, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said during a news conference Tuesday.

The agents retreated and Rahim charged at them—at which point a Boston police officer and an FBI agent fired at the suspect, hitting him twice in the torso.

Rahim was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“(Officers) did everything they could do to get the individual to drop the knife,” Evans said, adding there’s a video that captured the incident.

Rahim’s brother—a Boston imam—issued this statement:

“We are deeply grieved by the loss of Usaamah.”

There are reports that the FBI and State Police may be in Everett searching an apartment there that may be connected to the incident.
