Mayor Walsh visits M&R vigil calls on Spectra-NationalGrid to delay start date
Neighbors in West Roxbury get a visit this morning at Spectra AIM construction site vigil. Walsh will write to FERC.
A large crowd, including MANY immediate neighbors, greeted Marty Walsh and staffers at the 8-9am vigil this morning, in front of the MASSIVE Spectra/AIM M&R station that is proposed to go active on Monday, Nov. 28. The Mayor answered MANY questions ranging from the immediate dangers posed by the M&R station, as well as longer term climate chaos and Boston long-term planning concerns. He promised to write a letter today to Spectra to not turn on the gas Monday, and said that he would possibly support USRep.Stephen Lynch's call to FERC to halt construction in #WestRoxbury and #Weymouth. The Mayor expressed his gratitude for the 2 year fight by the community, saying that he used to do this kind of direct organizing work as well. Sadly, the FERC docket shows that permission to start Monday was granted TODAY. A WBUR report from this afternoon stated that Spectra plans now to turn on the gas Dec. 1st.
In the video link below Mayor speaks with community members and answers questions, promising his active support, today! 8:30am on Nov 23, 2016.

"Thanks Mayor Walsh for coming to West Roxbury and ensuring that this dangerous project gets proper community input BEFORE the gas is turned on."
On Nov.18th, US Congressman Stephen Lynch called on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission a second time to HALT Spectra Energy work on #WestRoxbury and #Weymouth fracked gas projects unless they can assure community safety. This was in response to a second recent explosion causing a fatality and serious injuries. This in time Canton, IL.
