Ohrenberger-Beethoven Schools Hold Soup-er Bowl for Roslindale Food Bank

The schools raised and donated more than 3,100 food items for the Roslindale Food Bank.

 

In the two weeks leading up the Super Bowl, the and schools ran a Soup-er Bowl - a food drive to benefit the Roslindale Food Bank.

At one point last year the Roslindale Food Bank was down to one bag of groceries due to the high demand of people seeking help from the bank.

With the Ohrenberger Student Council leading the way, members from the middle school collected, counted, tracked, boxed, and loaded the food into cars for delivery.  

The Ohrenberger School collected and donated 2315 items of canned and boxed food and bottles of water, according to parent Mayre Plunkett. The Beethoven collected 846, adding up to 3,161 items of food!

"While the other Super Bowl didn't work out the way we wanted, I would say this one certainly did!" said Plunkett. 

Principal Eileen Nash, the principal for both schools, said the food drive was a good way to give back to the community. She said just as the Patriots organization contributes to the New England region, it's important for students to learn the importance of helping those in need.
