Ohrenberger & Charles River Church Kids Connect Enjoy Boston Harbor Islands

Close to a 100 kids from the and the Kids Connect program in West Roxbury spent a summer day in the Boston Harbor Islands this month.

The kids visited the islands as part of the Save the Harbor/Save the Bay’s free All Access Boston Harbor Program.

This year Save the Harbor/Save the Bay has brought close to 6,000 youths from area community organizations and youth groups on free day trips to the Boston Harbor Islands, according to a press release.

Since 2003, the organization has brought more than 60,000 kids to the Boston Harbor, Harbor Islands, as well as our public beaches and Boston's waterfront.

“We think it's important to share our great harbor with as many kids as possible,” said Save the Harbor President Patricia Foley via press release. “This year we have expanded our free island trips from three days a week to four, giving thousands more youth and teens the opportunity to spend the summer at the seashore.”

The kids met at Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion before setting sail on the Provincetown II. The spent day exploring in the Boston Harbor Islands National Park. On Georges Island, kids checked out historic Fort Warren, or searched the shore for sea creatures like periwinkles and hermit crabs. On Spectacle Island kids hike, swim, fly kites or search for beach glass and artifacts on the island's Treasure Beach.
