Roslindale Library Celebrates 50 Years of Books and Fun
Roslindale Branch Library celebrates its golden anniversary with a noisy, tasty, 60s-themed party.
Romozar sat quietly in the Roslindale Branch Library on Friday. With a book in his left hand and a slice of pizza in his right, the 11-year-old couldn't stop grinning. "I didn’t know about the party," he said. "But first I saw Mayor Menino, and then I saw '50th Anniversary' everywhere. And then I caught on!”
It would've been hard to miss the party atmosphere at the library on Friday. With a DJ spinning music from the 1960s, food, hula hoops, a clown, crafts, and decorations on everything from bookshelves to librarians, the library put on a party very worthy of it's five decades in Roslindale.
Mayor Menino, one of several honored guests, played a large part in the day's festivites by cutting the ribbon during a rededication ceremony, speaking to the large crowd, cracking jokes, and even cutting the cake.

"Libraries are changing everywhere in this country," said the mayor. "And we want to be at the forefont of that change. . .It's all about technology, and it’s all about these kids.”
The library's 50th anniversary celebration will continue with the a float in the October 2nd Roslindale Day Parade, as well as the launch of a new film and speaker series and a "Rozzie Reads" program.
