Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. One of 15 schools represented, RL was eventually crowned champion of the exciting all-day event. Big contributors to that team victory were West Roxbury residents Sean Rose, Alfred Sweeney, and Brennan Barry. The freshman trio all placed, with Rose placing 4th in the 163-pound weight class, Sweeney finishing 2nd for the 110 pounders, and Barry winning the 117-pound weight class.
