Texas Hold 'Em Tournament in Support of Parkway Youth Hockey Teams Heading to Lake Placid

The Tournament is Being Held Saturday Night at the Emerald Society

“Great moments are born from great opportunity”… you may recognize the line from the famous Herb Brooks locker room speech during the 1980 Olympics. Great moments and great opportunity is exactly what Coach Kevin Parker and his coaching staff are providing to Midget aged boys in the Parkway area. What started three years ago with one team and a mission to reestablish the Parkway Youth Hockey Midget program, has expanded to three teams planning to participate in the 2016 Can/AM Challenge Cup in Lake Placid, NY in late March. Last year, thanks to the support of many, the Parkway U18 team won Silver and the U16’s just missed the Bronze. The tournament is an amazing experience for kids as they get to play competitive hockey at an international level, in probably the most storied rink in North America, where Herb Brooks hockey team won the Gold Medal. For many of the kids this will be their last game as a youth hockey player and their only chance to play against international competition. For all of the kids, it will be the experience of a lifetime. This year the teams are again in need of financial support from the community. To assist with that, a GoFundMe page has been set up seeking contributions from anyone interested helping to making this priceless experience a reality for these kids. The generous support received allows these trips take place, and is greatly appreciated as the level of participation continues to expand and it keeps kids playing hockey at an age when they tend to lose interest and leave the game.

In addition to soliciting cash donations via the GoFundMe page, the teams have hosted a number of fundraisers. The final formal fundraising event, a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament, is being held this Saturday March 5th, 2015 at The Emerald Society located at 10 Birch St, Roslindale MA. Registration will begin at 7:15PM and the tournament starts at 8:00 PM. For more information on the event you can email PYHLakePlacidTrip@Comcast.net or stop by The Emerald Society Saturday night.
