West Roxbury Businesses to Gather for Job Fair Tuesday

Job seekers and employers in the West Roxbury area will have the chance to network with one another at a special job fair to be held next week.

The Irish Social Club at 119 Park St. in West Roxbury will host the fair on Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m., according to an announcement by West Roxbury Main Streets.

Businesses in West Roxbury and job seekers alike are encouraged to attend the free event, which was sparked by an idea from JP and Shara Bedard, owners of Wicked Sharp Sports in West Roxbury, which is collaborating with the Irish Social Club, the West Roxbury Business and Professional Association and West Roxbury Main Streets, according to WRMS.

“We’re working with existing and new businesses throughout the neighborhood to make sure everyone who is hiring can get some exposure,” Michael Iceland, Director of West Roxbury Main Streets said in a statement. “In the past week, businesses up and down Centre and Spring streets have announced they’re hiring, including Baker Baker, Wicked Sharp, JP Licks, as well as businesses opening this fall, like Eat With Jack O’Neill, El Recreo Coffee Roasters and Ria Cafe. We’re hopeful that these businesses, as well as the grocery stores and larger employers in the area, will join us.”

The job fair is aimed at creating opportunities for area residents and is being led by the Bedards, according to the announcement.

“We have a need here in the store, but knew we weren’t alone,” JP Bedard said. “There’s businesses up and down the street looking for new employees. It just makes sense for us to do this together. Everyone gets more this way; more applicants for us, more job opportunities for the neighborhood. Sometimes it’s hard to know who’s hiring. This will get us all in one place.”
