West Roxbury Resident Receives Syracuse's Chancellor's Award for Public Engagement and Scholarship

On March 26, 2012, Jamie O'Sullivan of West Roxbury received the Syracuse University's Chancellor's Award for Public Engagement and Scholarship.

This award recognizes committed students at Syracuse University who exemplify "Scholarship in Action."
Jamie was one of 49 students in EDU 303: Teaching and Learning in Inclusive Schooling who took part in fieldwork in the Syracuse city school district school system, in collaboration with the "Say Yes to Education" afterschool program.

The college students engaged in tutoring that provided an invaluable support system and personalized instruction for 70 elementary students. The project was conducted in two of Syracuse's high need elementary schools, which serve kindergarten through fourth-grade students who have significant difficulties in learning to read.
Jamie is the daughter of Raymond and Anne O'Sullivan of West Roxbury and is finishing her sophmore year at Syracuse University.
