West Roxbury Schools and Community Centers Offering Free Breakfast and Lunch for Children 18 or Younger

Several West Roxbury schools and community centers are offering free breakfast and lunch as a part of the city's annual summer food program.

No identification or registration is necessary to participate in the program.

Across the city at more than 140 sites across Boston, children 18-years-old and younger are welcome to free meals.

“It is important that even when school is out we are giving the kids in our city access to free, nutritious food,” said Boston Mayor Thomas Menino through a press release. “During the school year, nearly 77 percent of students attending Boston Public Schools receive a free or reduced price lunch. This stunning statistic indicates just how important it is – with the help of our partners - we are serving these meals in the summer months.”

The Summer Food Services Program is funded by the federal government and organized by the Massachusetts Department of Education. The Boston Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services Department sponsors the program locally and you can call the Project Bread Hotline at 1-800-645-8333 to find the site closest to you (or see the attached PDF), or follow this link.

There are four locations in West Roxbury:

• - Lunch only; July 5 - Aug. 19; 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
• - Breakfast/Lunch; July 11- Aug. 19; 8-11:30 a.m.
• - Breakfast/Lunch; July 11 - Aug. 5; 8 a.m. - noon.
• - Breakfast/Lunch; July 11 - Aug. 19; 8:30 a.m. - noon.

Sidekim Foods of Lynn, Massachusetts, is supplying the food for this year’s program, for this first time.
