Which Baseball Bats Are Approved for Parkway Little League?

This isn't the 1950s when wooden bats were the only option.

Many adults only had one baseball bat option when they were in Little League - a wooden bat. If it broke, you hopefully could buy another one, or your teammate had a bat you could use. This isn't your father's Little League.

Nowadays with wooden, aluminum, alloy, hybrid bats and more - there are bats that are banned from the Little League International (LLI) leagues, which Parkway Little League is a member of.

"There is a little league international rule that bans 'some' bats. Many of them are the composite bats that are very popular because they give an added pop to the bat," said John Fitzgerald, vice president of Parkway Little League. "However, for safety reason LLI has ruled them a hazard in response to a study done done at UMass Lowell in 2010."

There is a lot of info on the LLI website, as well as several very helpful pages on the Parkway Little League website. There are sections on: Bat Types, a Guide to What's Available, Bat Rules, FAQs, and General Bat Overview.

"The whole thing is confusing to parents and coaches so we are trying to give as much information as possible so parents don't spend a lot of money on bats that the kids will not be able to use," said Fitzgerald. "We had to do the same thing last year as well.  It is all for the safety of the kids and that is our number one priority. Many other organizations have similar bans (even going as far as wooden bat only)."
