Aged Wood Nears Playoffs With Strong Season
The team holds the seventh seed in the playoffs, which start on Tuesday.
It's been an exciting first season for .
Having started the summer fresh with practices at , the team, dubbed Westwood Aged Wood, is now on its way to the Old New England Lacrosse League (ONELL) playoffs, which begin on August 16.
Last week, on Tuesday, August 2, the team won in overtime against the South Coast Silver Sachems, 8-7. Westwood resident Feargal O'Reagoan scored the OT goal to win the game, giving the team a 5-2 record.
Aged Wood, however, fell in the final regular season game against the Buzzards Bay Salty Old Buzzards, 13-5 on Tuesday this week. But that doesn't knock the team out of the playoffs; rather, it puts them in the seventh seed, and they'll play away for the first game.
But the players are simply thrilled to be in the playoffs after its first season on the turf.

"It's a rarity for a first-year team to make the playoffs," said goale and Westwood resident John Hauck.
Meanwhile, a handful of the team's players were even selected to play in the ONELL All-Star game before the Boston Cannons at Harvard Stadium:

- Eric Arnold (Westwood) for Attack
- Eric Deehan (Westwood) for Midfield
- Bill Stewart (Medfield) for Midfield
- Scott Lanciloti (Newton) for Defense
- John Hauck (Westwood) for Goalie and as Ambassador
"For the attack, the midfield and defense, the team selects guys to represent it," Hauck said. "I got selected as goalie, which I took as huge, because in order to be selected you need to be selected by your opponents. It was a nice honor."
He added, "The All-Star game was eye opening, because they're basically picking the top four guys from the team, and you saw a lot of really good ex-college players. We're manning a good ship here and we're being recognized for playing lacrosse the right way."
