Mars Recall: Snickers, Milky Way Bars Called Back After Plastic Discovery

55 countries are affected by the recall, according to a Mars spokesman. It is unclear whether the United States is affected.

American chocolate maker Mars has issued a multi-country recall after finding plastic in one of their products.

Mars Netherlands spokesman told Roel Govers told the Associated Press Tuesday that the recall affects 55 countries, but didn’t provide further details.

It is unclear whether the United States is affected. Govers told news agency DPA the bars had been produced in a Netherlands factory.

Mars, Milky Way, Snickers, Celebrations, and Mini Mix are included in the recall, according to a press release obtained by the Dutch food safety authority. A full list is said to be available on the Mars website, but as of Tuesday morning, the page appeared to be down.

All of the affected products would be stamped with a “best before” date ranging from June 19, 2016 to January 8, 2017.

The release said a piece of plastic was found in one of the candy products, a potential choking hazard.
