The Lee Estate

On Tuesday, October 11th at 7:30 PM at the Fisher School, the Westwood Historical Society will host a program on the Lee Estate presented by John Hester. John
Hester was born in Louisburg Square, Boston, in the early thirties and moved
with his family to the Lee Estate in Westwood, when still a small child. The
family lived in an apartment above the nine-car garage on the estate. His
father was the family chauffeur, and his mother helped Mrs. Lee. He later
graduated from Boston College with a degree in Accounting, and worked at the
Dedham Institution for Savings.

During his program, John Hester will share his
experiences living on a self-sustaining 600 acre estate during the 30's and
40's. We will learn what the estate was like at that time, and who lived and
worked there. John's parents continued to work at the estate for many years
after John left in the early fifties. He returned often, with his children, to
visit them. His children had the opportunity to visit the "Big
House", to wander the expansive rooms, to explore the barns and summer
house, to pick apples, and to walk through the extensive gardens and
greenhouses. This program provides an opportunity to learn more about a way of
life in Westwood during a time that is no longer!
