Hale Camp Season Set to Begin on Monday

It's no secret that the streets of Westwood tend to be a little quieter once the summer months hit each year. 

But one area that won't be very quiet in town is . 

Hale's is set to kick off on Monday, though one camp actually took to the grounds last week for an early start. 

Every summer, about 2,000 kids from nearly 70 different communities descend upon Hale for camp. The season wraps up at the end of August.

"Everything looks pretty good," Hale Executive Director Eric Arnold told Westwood Patch this week. "Enrollments are all steady and good, and programatically we continue to make some additions and changes. We've got various events throughout the summer that occur. There's a steady flow of things."

One such event is , which has been held the last two years. An annual Fourth of July celebration will also be held at Membership Beach. 

Campers will also have the chance to embark on again this year, a program that allows them to board a small electric- and solar-powered boat, on which they scour the waters of Noanet Pond looking for animal and plant life.
