Hale to Host Memorial 5K for Julia Brune

The event will begin and end at Membership Beach, of which Brune was the manager.

This Saturday, will be holding a special 5K trail race in the memory of Julia Brune, the former manager for Hale's Membership Beach who lost her battle with cancer in October 2011. 

The event will be part of Hale's ongoing 5K Series, but will specifically benefit Julia's Place at Membership Beach, according to Hale officials this week. 

"Unlike our other races, this one will start and end at Membership Beach," said Hale spokesperson Paula McLaughlin.

Those interested can register for the 5K by visiting HaleReservation.org/events_triatlon.html. Interested participants can also register the day of the event.

In June, the Westwood Educational Foundation (WEF) , which is presented annually to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to education in the Westwood community.

Brune was honored with the award for the many unique and far-reaching initiatives she undertook as director of Membership Beach at Hale, a position in which she served for 15 years, as well as for her efforts teaching swimming and coaching youth on the Westwood Recreation Department’s swim team.
