Have a Party and Help the Community with Entertaining for Education

Entertaining for Education is a program that collects money from parties to help the community

Thanks to the Westwood Educational Foundation, Westwood residents can party to help the local community.

Entertaining for Education is a program that raises money through parties organized by local residents. According to Andrea Yanoff, co-chair of Entertaining for Education, the program has been running for four years and has helped raise thousands of dollars.

"Last year our goal was $20,000 and we exceeded the goal and raised a total of $32,000 from the E4E parties," said Yanoff. "We would love to match and/or exceed $32,000 this year."

Residents can register to be a host of a party until September 17.

In past years, residents have hosted Halloween costume parties, festival cocktail parties, neighborhood progressive dinners, Bunko parties, Red Sox parties, bring-your-own-dessert parties and more. A donation of $35 per guest is requested.

"The funds we raise are given back to the community in the form of educational grants," Yanoff explained.

Yanoff said that WEF is unique in that it serves the entire Westwood Community, schools, senior citizens, library, police, fire, local nursery schools, veteran's services, garden clubs, historical society and many other independent community based organizations.

WEF is a non-profit organization run by an all volunteer board.  The mission of WEF is to promote community spirit through lifelong enrichment opportunities to Westwood residents of all ages.

Yanoff added that since 1991, WEF  has provided almost 300 grants totaling nearly $660.

Yanoff explained that WEF was started by Barbara Friedman in 1991 as a catalyst for positive action to maintain Westwood's deserved reputation as a leader in education.  The organization originally raised funds to finance teachers, schools, and community organizations that offered educational programs not currently available.

Parties normally take place at Westwood residents' homes and WEF is looking to have a total of at least 25 hosts. There are currently 18 hosts and WEF has dedicated the entire month of October to the parties, so they can be done on any day or night.

To book a party, or for more information, contact Andrea Yanoff at ayanoff@diametric.com or (617) 694-4464. Registration ends September 17.
