Historian to Profile Howard Johnson's
Anthony Sammarco will discuss the franchise next week at the Westwood Historical Society.
The next week will host a lecture by Anthony Sammarco, whom the Boston Globe has dubbed "Boston's premier amateur historian," regarding the history of Howard Johnson's chain of hotels and restaurants.
Sammarco will be on hand in Westwood on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the history surrounding Howard Johnson's, which was well known throughout the 20th Century for its orange roofs.
The restaurants were opened on major roads and interstate highways by the 1930s, according to the Westwood Historical Society.
The franchise sprouted up along the eastern seaboard offering grilled frankfurters, chops and steaks and 28 flavors of famous ice cream.
