Islington Center Articles Pass At Westwood Town Meeting

The project includes construction of a new mixed-use building, renovations and the relocation of several buildings.

WESTWOOD, MA – Westwood Town Meeting on Wednesday approved three articles pertaining to the Islington Center redevelopment proposal, allowing the project to move forward. The articles were for a Land Disposition Agreement regarding the transferring of parcels of land; allotting $3.5 million for the library renovation; and the rezoning of two parcels of land from single residence to local business.

According to Wicked Local, Article 11, the Land Disposition Agreement, failed to get a two-thirds majority on the first vote but was approved upon reconsideration. The other two articles passed the first time around.

The redevelopment project includes a mixed-use building with 18 condominiums, three affordable housing units and nine that can qualify as affordable housing; a 9,000-square-foot CVS; the relocation of Mother's Morning Out daycare, Blue Hart Tavern and Wentworth Hall; and the demolition and reconstruction of the Islington Community Center.
