Library to Close in April, Books Moved in May [Video]

A recent update from the Westwood Public Library project sets the closure of the current library at the end of April.

While still months away, thing are beginning to wrap up over at the site of the new Westwood Public Library. 

It is expected that the project will call for the main branch of the to close at the end of April, with books and materials to be moved to the new building in early May, according to a recent update on Library Director Tom Viti's blog

TLT Construction completed more than half of the project's Phase 1 work at the end of December, according to the update, and as of January the exterior masonry was nearly complete.

The internal stairways and elevator are being installed, while electrical, plumbing and mechanical work continues. 

Meanwhile, TLT's contract for Phase 2 of the project has been extended by 56 working days, a move that was approved by the Westwood Permanent Building Committee approved with the expectation of some damage from the Colburn School moving across the library site.

After the move of the Colburn School, crews will begin construction of the roadway and entrance of the new building, as well as work on paving, landscaping and curbing, according to last week's update. 

At the beginning of January, officials in Westwood began to the new library. On Jan. 18, those bids were opened and made available for reading by the general public. 

As for the landscaping of the area,  that are planted on the site to the lanscape of the new library.
