Mike Monaghan Jazz Quartet Plays to Crowd of 60

The jazz ensemble played to a crowd ranging from children to adults on Sunday. The show, in its 25th year, is sponsored by Friends of the Westwood Public Library.

The Friends of the Westwood Public Library put on a free concert featuring the Mike Monaghan Jazz Quartet on Sunday.

The concert, now in its 25th year, was held at the Islington Community Center, due to the Westwood Public Library project. Library Director Tom Viti said that he was proud to have the group of musicians performing year after year.

"We are always delighted to have Mike, Brad and the guys," said Viti. "They are some of the best musicians you'll hear anywhere."

Each musician is highly-experienced, with some holding international acclaim. Pianist Brad Hatfield actually wrote the musical score to the film Mystic River, and has also written music for various television shows, such as Rescue Me.

Hatfield, Monaghan and percussionist Jim Gwynn all play with the Boston Pops.

The concert was started by Paul Monaghan, who taught music in Westwood High School, Viti said.
