Miss Southcoast 2011 Returns To Westwood

Cecilie Pope of Westwood was awarded as the Third Runner Up in last weekend's Miss Massachusetts pageant.

Although Cecilie Pope, Miss Southcoast and resident of Westwood, returned from the without the title, she did very well for herself.

Pope was named third runner up in the pageant, and for this, she received a $1,800 scholarship, an additional $250 for the Preliminary Talent Award and $150 for the Preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness award.

Pope explainedhow the most difficult part of the pageant is the end.

“This pageant is physically and emotionally draining, and you are on a high when performing," she said. "For me, when it all ends, I feel very overwhelmed and feel very sad, for even though the hard work paid off, it’s over. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a complete meltdown in my sister’s arms. Hey, you have to cry sometimes.”

Pope went on to say that many of the girls do feel disappointed with results, even if they score high, because when it all comes down to it, they are all there to win.

“What is so important is that you give yourself credit for what you did do and be very proud,” said Pope.

Reflecting back, Pope has fond memories of the initial moments of the pageant.

“The most memorable part of the pageant for me is that moment when the curtain opens, the lights go on, the music booms, and I just think to myself ‘You did it. You’re here,’" she said. "It’s nice to give yourself a pat on the back every once in a while,” said Pope.

Meanwhile, Pope was very pleased with the turnout of her interview, and the panel of judges.

“Some interviewers are there to ‘get you, to stump you.’ I don’t think that helps them get to know you any better,” Pope said. “In my interview, they asked me a lot about my platform and my vegetarian and vegan lifestyle - two very important issues in my life. I think they really got to know me.".

Pope is also thankful for the special relationships that she developed during her experience.

“These women were such kindred spirits and I know I will be friends with them for a long time,” said Pope.

Pope believes that her pageant days may be over, as she ages out of the system this year.

“I don’t know if I would want to do any other system,” said Pope. “If I were younger, I would do it again in a heartbeat and maybe have a better shot at winning! In my next life.”
