NESA Gymnasts Excel at State Competition
The group, which included Westwood students, took part in the competition last weekend.

The state competition was held on at Shady Hill School in Cambridge. Altogether, 34 gymnasts of NESA took part in the competition, which was held from Friday, March 2 to Sunday, March 4.

Rhythmic Star had participation in all the individual competition from level 3 up to level 9. Levels 3 and 4 are the beginner levels, which are designed to introduce young gymnasts to fundamental moves with correct posture and basic apparatus technique. In level 3, Rhythmic Star’s Christina Eldamaa tied at the first place while Isabella Pappas came in third. In level 4 was Katerina Mikhailova took the third place.
In level 5 and 6 are gymnasts are introduced to flexibility and strength in a greater extent. Similarly more emphasis is given to handling of apparatuses like hoop, ball and rope.

In the level 5, Child C category Vanessa Wong won the 2nd place all around and in level 5, Junior B category, Gabriela Androssenko won the 1st place.
In level 6, child C category Rheya Shano took the first place all around with the score of 50.60. While in level 6, Junior A category, Anya Gavronsky won the second place with 39.50 score for her team.
In level 7, 8 and 9, the gymnasts start concentrating on their individual strengths and more emphasis is given on complex handling of the apparatus.
In level 7, Ana Grant took the third place while in level 8, junior A category Erica Wu and Melissa Wong took first and second place respectively. Erica Wu has had a tremendous year; she won the first the Nuremberg International Championship in Germany few months ago too.
When asked about her success, Erica said, “I am very happy that I won the state meet championship. I thank my coach Varduhi and my parents doing everything for me. And I will work harder towards becoming an even better gymnast.”
While in level 8, junior B category, Bea Edmonds won the first place with the all around score of 58.70
In level 9, junior category Regina Wu won the first place with the score 90.10, while Karen Kravets took the third place in level 9 senior categories.
The Head coach Varduhi was beaming with the pride at her gymnast’s success at the State Championship.
The Westwood’s Rhythmic Star gymnasts dominated this competition, and is heading to another competition – the Coaches Cup held at the Syracuse University this weekend.
