Overboard Brings Vocal Harmonies to Westwood
Residents, town officials and even a state congressman all enjoyed vocal renditions of hit songs both old and new.
Westwood residents soaked up the rays of the setting sun last night at the Westwood Senior Center, where a cappella group Overboard performed all-vocal renditions of contemporary and classic hits.
"What a beautiful day we have here," said Caleb Whelden, one of the group's seven singers, as he looked out at the crowd. "The lawn chairs, the blankets, this is a really awesome thing."
The group performed vocalized versions of such songs as "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakwiwo'ole, "Is She Really Going Out With Him" by Joe Jackson, and "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, among others.

In addition to residents, the Westwood Board of Selectmen and Town Clerk Dottie Powers could be seen among the crowd. What's more, Massachusetts Congressman Stephen Lynch was also in attendance. Lynch said he has been to similar concert series in Randolph, Braintree, East Bridgewater and Stoughton, among other towns, meeting and greeting residents and enjoying a variety of music.
"This is great," Lynch said last night, as he watched Overboard perform. "A terrific group. We've been doing these neighborhood and town concerts, two or three a night, so that's what brought us here. Westwood's got the best weather so far."
