PHOTOS: Westwood High School Students Look Forward to Summer Days

Westwood High School students wrapped up the school year on Thursday, and some offered their plans for the summer.

The halls at were filled with smiles and cheers Thursday, as the remaining students finished up their finals and started their summers.

Students gathered in the hallway as school ended, with some saying goodbye and some just making plans for the next activity. One sophomore, Fiona Moylan, said that it was time to forget about the difficult final exams she had just taken and instead look forward to the summer ahead of her.

Moylan will be taking off to Ireland for two weeks, which is something she has done every year. She will be heading to Galway, and will have a chance to see plenty of extended family.

Ninth graders Chris Zoppo and Noel Plourde also finished up their finals. Zoppo had an English final that he said wasn’t too difficult, but was long because it was an essay test. Earlier in the day he had an art final, which Plourde had just finished. It involved a weaving project, and both Plourde and Zoppo said that they thought they did well.

As for their summer plans, Zoppo will be heading to Florida and the Cape for a couple of weeks. Plourde said that he will also be going to the Cape, but will be working at a camp as well.

Tenth grader Danny Gavin’s summer will involve plenty of hockey and hanging out with his friends. Gavin said that he was just excited that the finals were over, but thought everything went well.

“The finals were all tough, but you just have to study,” said Gavin. “I think I did well.”

High School Principal Emily Parks will be making a transition to Assistant Superintendent on July 1, but also has summer plans ahead of her. She will be heading to the Grand Tetons in Wyoming for a week, which is a spot that she and her family have gone to before.

Parks anxiously awaits her week of hiking and relaxation. She also said that the end of the year ran smoothly, and that the students seemed very pleased to move onto the next step.

“I can understand,” said Parks. “Who doesn’t like the rhythm of summer?”
