Westwood resident and Boston Police Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald and The City of Boston Credit Union presented Joslin Diabetes Center with a check for $70,000 from the sixth annual “Field of Dreams” WiffleBall Tournament and Fundraiser. The event was held this year on May 9th at the Boston Athletic Club in South Boston and drew a crowd of more than 300 people. Paul Fitzgerald founded “Field of Dreams”, a day-long wiffleball tournament, with his wife, Leigh Anne, after their daughter Caroline was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 8 years old. Caroline receives her care at Joslin Diabetes Center. The tournament, which has raised a total of over $360,000 in the last six years, benefits Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund; the fund directly supports vital diabetes clinical care programs and ground-breaking research initiatives at Joslin.
Notable attendees for the check presentation included Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans, Superintendent in Chief Will Gross, representatives from both the Boston Athletic Club and City of Boston Credit Union - who served as event sponsor yet again; and members of the Boston Police Department and Boston Police Runners Club, who have volunteered each year to help make this event a success
